And the color of the year for 2014 is...
/Radiant Orchid - a color that "blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health," according to the announcement on Pantone's website.
My first thought when reading the announcement this morning was, "Fuchsia? I'm not sure I am on board with such a pink-purple." It was at that moment that I looked down and realized I was wearing a fuchsia t-shirt. Finding that somewhat ironic, I then noticed a pad of pink-purple Post-it notes sitting directly to the left of my keyboard. The pièce de résistance, however, is a print of this little guy that hangs right above my computer screen:
Untitled (Pink Sam) circa 1954 by Andy Warhol
Yes, a fuchsia cat. Andy Warhol was allowed to make cats in whatever color he pleased. And he did.
So, touché Pantone. Clearly I am on board with pink-purples after all.
